Dead Rising 3 is an action game developed by Capcom Vancouver for Xbox One and published by Microsoft Game Studios. This is the third release in the Dead Rising saga, and it was the most challenging one for its developers, as they tried to create a longer, larger and yet seamless game. It is also the third of Microsoft’s exclusive new releases for Xbox One. Capcom stated that the game will not be launched for other platforms, so it will only be available for Microsoft’s console.
This release take us to the city of Los Perdidos, California, where we will play the role of Nick Ramos, a young mechanic who tries to survive the zombie apocalypse and leave the city before a military attack devastates the it and its inhabitants. The game offers an open world much larger than ones seen in Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2, so you will have to be faster than ever to escape from the city.
City of Evil
Events in this release occur 10 years after Fortune City (Dead Rising 2). Chip-implantation policies established by the government for zombie populations failed to achieve desired objectives, leaving no other option than for survivors to run to the nearest evacuation center and avoid being bitten. There is a shortage of Zombrex, and authorities don’t trust those who declare themselves healthy, which makes it harder for our protagonist to survive. Nick and his group will have to escape the city within 6 days, as a nuclear bomb is about to obliterate the city to neutralize the zombie threat.
Dead Rising 3 does not have best game narrative. What will encourage us to move through its 7 chapters (about 12 hours of gameplay) is the ability to exterminate massive amounts of zombies in varied and creative ways. Thousands of undead swarm the maps, and you will have to deal with them efficiently in order to stay alive. Of course, you are free to beat one or two zombies with your bare hands, but the problem comes when you find yourself surrounded by a huge horde, or you find yourself faced with one of the psychopaths. You will be free to combine the “weaponry” that you will find in the scenarios (purses, cheap whiskey bottles, traffic cones, etc.) to craft deadly weapons. To do so, you will have to find blueprints to learn how to craft certain weapons.
You will have to cross the entire map from one side to another multiple times during gameplay, more worried about masses of zombies than your current objective. Both main and side-missions follow typical sandbox mechanics: go from A to B and get back after taking C. This makes some missions a bit tedious. Don’t worry about the vast size of Los Perdidos; you will be free to drive vehicles to go faster. Note that these vehicles won’t last for long, as one or two hits against a zombie pack will leave them useless and ready to explode.
